Vintage Americana

It has been a hectic three weeks in the Colour of Couture competition, but I welcome challenges of all levels. For our second runway challenge we were given the theme "Vintage Americana." As an American, I was actually nervous because I want to do my country proud in representing it with my styling. To me, that retro 50's era was about the fresh, young American woman looking to explore all the sites this great country has to offer. I wanted to embody that ambitious feeling with citrus high-waisted shorts and a sweet gingham halter top. When traveling cross country, protecting your eyes is a must so I wore the classic cat eye shades that were a popular style back in the day. For extra dramatic flair I added a flowy scarf that symbolizes the carefree American spirit and a pair of sweet bows to the top for that wholesome girl-next-door appeal. This style is definitely me because it's fun and carefree, and I hope the judges felt the same way.

I've got some more RFL donation items to show you all from FantaSea, Evie's Closet and Emo-tions. These creations were made with love in the name of aiding cancer research so that someday a cure won't just be fairy tale. Kawaii Fair 2012

Kawaii is a term that I'm all too familiar with since I love all things moe. If you get what I'm saying, then you're an otaku too. For those of you not in the know, kawaii is a Japanese word used to describe anything cute, and there's a fair dedicated to it on the grid going on right now. I'm wearing some of the offerings from Lush Limited that are available there. The Just a Girl corset is made of body-cinching black leather with hot pink Hello Kitty features on the bodice. It goes well with the Laced Up jeans that appear tame in the front only to reveal a sexy wham-bam of lace running up the back. The darling Domo-kun ring is a playful critter who will chase away all bad vibes. Add some spunk to your look with the Mush Mouth hair and Glaze Lip in black for an ensemble that says, "I'm cute but dangerous." Be sure to pick these up at the Kawaii Fair before it closes on April 28th!

All Hail Queen Elizabeth

Please do not skewer me for improper use of a cultural reference; I swear I only meant to be as adorable as this new release from Evie's Closet. She has been shrinking down some of her popular styles to fit the petite mesh avatars and this regal gown is the latest in that venture. The Elizabeth dress comes in two variations, sleeved and strapless, with a full ballgown skirt and ruffled bodice. The high collar adds an air of royalty that will make any petite feel like a queen despite her tiny stature. As usual, there were no sacrifices made in the fine details as noted in the embroidery running across the bodice and hemline, which is what makes Evie's designs quality above the rest.

Pyjama Party at Colour of Couture

So the competition has officially started and it was definitely nerve-wracking. In these things you never know what someone may or may not like so it's best to be yourself. For the first runway challenge for Miss Colour of Couture, we were given the theme of Pyjama Party. What appears to be a spellcheck error is actually the name of a style shown on British Vogue's website in which designers created high end sleepwear. The creations varied but carried the same themes of flowy trouser pants with billowy shirts and long, sweeping jackets. I chose to wear a top and pants from NYU, the brainchild of masterful artist NyuNyu Kimono. The harem pants made a welcomed come back in simple silk and are tailored to fit a man or woman's body. The Vintage blouse hangs loosely with a long ribbon tie for a comforting look. I accessorized my ensemble with Acid & Mala Reader glasses so I can pour through a novel before bed. Being me, I had to punk it up a bit with LoQ's Brandy II shaved hairstyle. My look was inspired by Haider Ackermann.
